The Real Magic

People often ask me what makes The Prism & Pendulum different.

Sure, we have crystals. We have herbs, candles, books, readers, healers, classes, and all the things you might expect to find in a metaphysical shop. But if I'm being honest, none of those things are what make this place special.

The real magic is the people.

Since the day we opened our doors, people have called The Prism & Pendulum a vortex. At first, I laughed. A vortex? Really?

But over time, I started to understand what they meant.

People walk through our doors and somehow find exactly who they need to meet. A conversation starts between strangers. Someone discovers a shared interest, a similar life experience, or a common spiritual path. A customer returns a few weeks later and tells me they made a new friend. A practitioner meets someone who becomes a collaborator. A chance encounter turns into a support system.

The synchronicities are often astonishing.

I've watched people meet for the first time only to discover they grew up in the same town, attended the same school years apart, worked in the same field, or shared the same obscure passion. I've seen customers arrive looking for a crystal and leave with a community. I've seen friendships, partnerships, mentorships, and even chosen families begin within these walls.

That's when I realized that the magic isn't really in the spells.

It's not in the rituals.

It's not even in the crystals.

Those things can be meaningful tools. They can help us focus our intentions, create space for reflection, and connect with something larger than ourselves. But they are not the source of the magic.

The source is connection.

It's the moment when someone feels seen.

It's the conversation that reminds us we're not alone.

It's finding people who understand us, support us, challenge us, and celebrate us.

It's community.

People often come looking for a crystal, a reading, or a class. What they don't expect to find is each other.

For most of my life, I've felt like a bit of a ringmaster—bringing people together, introducing one person to another, creating spaces where unexpected things can happen. Given that my family once owned the Cole Brothers Circus, perhaps that role was always in my blood.

A circus ringmaster doesn't perform every act. They don't create the magic themselves. Their job is to bring remarkable people into the same tent and let something extraordinary unfold.

That's how I feel about The Prism & Pendulum.

Every day, I have the privilege of opening the doors and welcoming people into the tent.

The readers, healers, teachers, artists, practitioners, and customers are the ones who create the wonder. They are the ones who share their stories, offer support, exchange ideas, and build relationships.

I simply help create the space where it can happen.

In a world that often feels disconnected, lonely, and divided, there is something profoundly healing about finding a place where you belong. A place where you can be yourself. A place where people know your name. A place where curiosity is welcomed, differences are respected, and everyone has a seat at the table.

That is the real magic of The Prism & Pendulum.

Not what we sell.

Not what we teach.

But the connections we create together.

And every day, I am grateful to witness it.

Creating Magic: Turning Dreams into Reality

This is where the magic happens!

Once we’ve dreamed big and dared to live boldly, the next step is weaving that energy into the world—creating magic.

Magic isn’t just spells or crystals (though I love those too); it’s the intentional act of bringing something into being that didn’t exist before. It could be a piece of jewelry, a ritual, a blog, or even a more authentic version of yourself.

Creation is the universe moving through your hands, your voice, your choices. Every time you create, you add light to the world. You add sparkle!

How to create more magic:

  • Set intentions. Begin your creations with purpose, no matter how small.

  • Stay present. Magic happens in the now, not in the “someday.”

  • Celebrate. Acknowledge your creations, whether tiny or monumental—they’re all part of the spell you’re weaving.

The truth is: You are the magician. Your life is your canvas. And when you dream big, live boldly, and create with love, the world becomes a little more extraordinary.

How am I creating magic in my world this week?

By simply creating! I’m taking the time to do something imaginative and artistic. This also allows me to take time for myself, out of the craziness and the chaos. I put on some music or the tv, ignore my phone, and just make something. I don’t think about the shop, weightlifting, or any other pressures or responsibilities.

This week I am working on decoupage cigar boxes, and also making jewelry. I’ve been making jewelry my whole life. The decoupage thing is new! I blame my artist daughter, Zoe, for this one. She loves a good mixed media art project, and so do I. I found a few vintage cigar boxes in my antique store/swap meet rounds recently and now I’m down a whole rabbit hole of decoupage!
